About the museum

The Muzeum Regionalne w Działoszynie (Regional Museum in Działoszyn) was established in 2007 and is located in the attic of the Męciński Palace, which houses the Regionalne Centrum Rozwoju Kultury i Turystyki (Regional Centre for the Development of Culture and Tourism), a unit of Pajęczno County. The palace stands west of the town centre, on an artificial embankment above the Warta.

The present residence was built in the second half of the 17th century by the Castellan of Wieluń, Andrzej Męciński. In the second half of the 18th century his descendant Stanisław Męciński thoroughly rebuilt it in the Baroque style; King Stanisław August Poniatowski was a guest here, and one of the rooms bears the king's name. In the 19th century the palace fell into ruin, it suffered during both world wars, and in 1957–1961 it was rebuilt for educational purposes. The renovation and revitalisation of the park were carried out in 2005–2007.

The museum exhibition has a historical and ethnographic character. Its most important part is the reconstructed interior of a peasant cottage from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, furnished with old furniture, everyday objects, agricultural tools and decorations. The palace can be visited during the opening hours of the cultural centre.
