About the museum

The classicist manor house in Złoty Potok was built around 1829 as a single-storey building on a rectangular plan, with a nine-bay façade and a porch on Tuscan columns. In 1851 the estate and the manor house were bought by General Wincenty Krasiński, father of the poet Zygmunt Krasiński. Zygmunt stayed in the area in 1852, and in the summer of 1857 he moved here with his family and made numerous walks through the Jura.

After the Second World War, teachers from the nearby agricultural technical school, among others, lived in the manor house. From 1985 to 2007 the Muzeum Biograficzne im. Zygmunta Krasińskiego (Zygmunt Krasiński Biographical Museum), a branch of the Częstochowa Museum, was housed here. When the building passed into local government use, the gmina of Janów renovated it and in 2008 opened a regional museum here, directly subordinate to the commune office.

The permanent exhibition “Pamiątki po Krasińskich i Raczyńskich” (Souvenirs of the Krasiński and Raczyński Families) presents family portraits, furniture, first editions of the poet’s works, a bust of Zygmunt Krasiński by Pietro Tenerani and an Érard piano associated with Fryderyk Chopin. The museum also shows temporary exhibitions on the history of the region. The manor house stands next to the Raczyński palace and its park.
