About the museum
The Centrum Dziedzictwa Przyrodniczego i Kulturowego Jury (Centre for the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Jura) in Podlesice is an educational complex at the foot of limestone hills with rock outcrops, next to the Góra Zborów geological nature reserve. The Centre’s buildings serve as the logistics base for the activities of the Towarzystwo Miłośników Ziemi Zawierciańskiej (Society of Friends of the Zawiercie Land) to protect the landscape and biodiversity of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The Centre operates under the care of the Fundacja Centrum Dziedzictwa Przyrodniczego i Kulturowego (Foundation of the Centre for the Natural and Cultural Heritage).
The buildings present the results of entomological, palaeontological and archaeological research carried out in the region. The interdisciplinary exhibition covers more than 200 m² and includes a three-dimensional, interactive model of the Góra Zborów area, as well as a multimedia conference room where educational films are shown. A separate geological exhibition presents minerals from around the world, fossils, meteorites, shark teeth and dinosaur bones. Information boards explain, among other things, the geology of the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura and the evolution of life on Earth.
Part of the complex is a nature trail through the reserve and the Jaskinia Głęboka (Deep Cave), open to tourists, which is 190 m long. It was secured in 2010, and the underground route is visited with a guide. The Centre also offers educational programmes and training courses, and in the area programmes on traditional grazing of Olkusz sheep are carried out.
