About the museum
The Railway History Museum was ceremonially opened on 23 March 2001. It is run by the Society of Friends of the Warsaw–Vienna Railway in Częstochowa (Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Kolei Warszawsko-Wiedeńskiej), an association of railway enthusiasts which looks after the historic Warsaw–Vienna railway line of 1846 linking Warsaw with Częstochowa. The society’s members gave the museum their private collections of documents, photographs and railway memorabilia, and all work on the exhibits is done on a voluntary basis.
The seat is in the building of Częstochowa Stradom railway station at ul. Pułaskiego 100/120; the entrance is from the street side, to the right of the main entrance. After renovation, new rooms and a new exhibition were opened. Since 2006 the museum has been part of the Silesian Voivodeship Route of Technical Monuments.
The collections include, among other things, railway lamps, eagle emblems from locomotives and carriages, signs, track equipment, uniforms, documents and clocks. Most exhibits can be touched, and almost all the technical devices are fully working. Visitors are shown around by members of the society, who tell them about the history and present of the railway.
