About the museum

The Regional Museum in Susz is a volunteer museum institution created and run by the Historical and Research Association “Galea” (Stowarzyszenie Historyczno-Badawcze “Galea”), founded in April 2017 by enthusiasts of the history of Susz and of the former Pomesania. The museum employs no staff; it operates thanks to the voluntary work of the association’s members and is financed from its own funds and donations. The institution was entered in the register of museums in 2019, and it opened to visitors in September 2021.

The museum is seated in the historic building of the former synagogue from 1864, located in the centre of the town, right by the old town. Several exhibitions have been set up inside, showing the history of Susz and the surrounding area from the earliest times to the early 1990s. The greatest attraction is the model of the old town of Susz from the 1930s, made on the basis of a cadastral plan of 1929, with more than 300 buildings, and the model of the palace in Kamieniec, known as the “Prussian Versailles”.

The collections include archaeological finds, among them a stone axe from the Neolithic about 5,000 years old, militaria, regional souvenirs and everyday objects from the PRL period. In May 2025, at the start of the celebrations of the 720th anniversary of Susz, the exhibition “Napoleon w Kamieńcu” (“Napoleon in Kamieniec”) was opened, summing up a six-year archaeological research project on the camp of the Imperial Guard from 1807.
