About the museum

The beginnings of the museum go back to 26 June 1996, when the Association of Friends of the Trzebinia Land “COR” (Stowarzyszenie Miłośników Ziemi Trzebińskiej “COR”) opened a permanent exhibition in the renovated Zieleniewski Manor (Dwór Zieleniewskich) at ul. Piłsudskiego 47a in Trzebinia. In June 1999 the Museum of the Trzebinia Land (Muzeum Ziemi Trzebińskiej) began operating in the manor. In the same year the association concluded an agreement with the Trzebinia branch of the AGH alumni association on establishing a museum at the Zbyszek shaft.

In 2004 the town lent the association the former mine bathhouse by the disused Zbyszek shaft of the Siersza mine, and on 6 November 2004 an industrial exhibition was opened there. In 2010 the institution was entered in the court register under the name Muzeum Regionalne w Trzebini (Regional Museum in Trzebinia); the official opening of the facility at the shaft also took place in 2010.

The current seat at ul. Grunwaldzka 1 includes several exhibition rooms, an open-air exhibition and a building with the winding machine at the foot of the shaft tower. Most of the collections concern closed industrial plants of Trzebinia, including the former Siersza mine. Maps and mining documents, miners' uniforms, lamps, rescue apparatus, methane detectors, models of mining machines and photographs are shown. Former exhibitions also covered the ethnography of the region and the history of Jewish martyrdom.
