About the museum
The Solec Museum named after Prince Przemysł was established on 1 January 2009, and its solemn opening took place on 12 March 2009. Its founding body is the Office of the Town and Municipality of Solec Kujawski. The institution is regional in character and gathers mainly souvenirs related to the history of Solec Kujawski and the surrounding villages.
The museum is housed in Villa Anna, a building more than a century old in the town centre at ul. Toruńska, built in 1911 by the Solec industrialist Carl Juegrens. The museum's patron is Prince Przemysł of Kuyavia, lord of Inowrocław and Wyszogród, who in 1325 granted Solec Kujawski Magdeburg rights.
The permanent exhibition “Dzieje Solca Kujawskiego i okolic” (History of Solec Kujawski and the Surrounding Area) begins with the oldest exhibit, a fragment of a horn hoe from the Late Palaeolithic, and goes on through finds from the Neolithic and the medieval history of the town, from the first written mention in 1263 up to the present day. Visitors will see a collection of coins from the 15th–19th centuries, including the so-called Solec hoard, souvenirs of the Kurkowe Bractwo Strzeleckie (Fowler Shooting Brotherhood), militaria from the Second World War, household appliances and souvenirs of the Solec branch of Solidarność. The exhibition ends with a collection of paintings on Solec themes. Information boards are available in Polish, English, German and Ukrainian.
