About the museum
The Land Forces Museum in Bydgoszcz has operated since 2011 and continues the work of two earlier institutions: the Muzeum Tradycji POW (Museum of POW Tradition), founded in 1973, and the Pomorskie Muzeum Wojskowe (Pomeranian Military Museum), established in 2007. It is based at ul. Czerkaska 2.
After renovation and adaptation works, a new exhibition was opened on 4 December 2013. It presents the history of the formations of the land forces, which over time became a separate branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The collections include military memorabilia from the Middle Ages, through the wars of the 17th century, the national uprisings, the struggles for the borders in 1918–1921 and the Second World War, up to the participation of Polish soldiers in foreign missions.
Apart from the permanent exhibition, the museum shows an exhibition of Polish Army badges after 1945, a chronology of the life of Marian Rejewski, one of the Polish cryptologists who broke the Enigma machine cipher, and two tanks in the open-air display. The museum also has branches in Toruń, Wrocław and Osowiec.
