About the museum
The Museum of Sport and Tourism opened on 18 January 1982 in the MOSiR sports hall in Łódź as a branch of the Museum of the History of the City of Łódź. It was created on the initiative of a founding committee, whose members included municipal officials, the sports historian Andrzej Bogusz and athletes associated with Łódź. In 2016 the institution was closed and its collections were moved to a storage facility at plac Wolności.
The museum reopened on 18 October 2018 at the Academic Sports and Teaching Centre of the Łódź University of Technology, “Zatoka Sportu”, on the university avenues. Today it is a branch of the Łódź City Museum.
The permanent exhibition “Faster, Higher, Stronger” occupies a little over 100 m². It tells, in chronological order, the history of sport and tourism in Łódź from the 19th century to the present, and shows the links between sport and social and political life. Particular attention is paid to the multinational and multi-ethnic sporting community of Łódź before 1939. The exhibits are interactive and engage various senses.
