About the museum
The Muzeum Warszawskiej Prowincji Kapucynów (Museum of the Warsaw Province of the Capuchins) was established in 1993 and opened to visitors in 1994. It is run by the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, and its seat is the premises of the Centrum Duchowości “Honoratianum” (Honoratianum Spirituality Centre) in Zakroczym. The centre, also founded in 1993, is named after Blessed Honorat Koźmiński, a Capuchin who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The exhibition occupies two halls. It presents memorabilia related to the history of the Order in the Polish lands, including relics of Blessed Honorat Koźmiński, and memorabilia of other Capuchins, among them Fr Ryszard Grabski, a prisoner in Soviet labour camps, Fr Benignus Sosnowski and Fr Michał Skorupiński.
Among the most valuable works of art are the castrum doloris of Prince Paweł Karol Sanguszko, who died in 1750, and a copy of the painting “Chór kościoła kapucynów w Rzymie” (The Choir of the Capuchin Church in Rome) by François Marius Granet. A separate ethnographic and mission exhibition shows objects from Latin America, Africa and Israel.
