About the museum
The palace in Choroszcz was the summer residence of Hetman Jan Klemens Branicki. The first building was erected in the 1720s; because of damp it was dismantled down to its foundations and rebuilt in the same form in 1757–1759. In the 19th century the palace was greatly extended, and in 1915 it burned down during the fighting.
The palace was reconstructed in 1962–1973 and handed over to the Regional Museum in Białystok to display former residential interiors. Since 1992 it has operated as a branch of the Podlasie Museum in Białystok under the name Muzeum Wnętrz Pałacowych (Museum of Palace Interiors).
The palace presents 18th- and 19th-century interiors: furniture from the Baroque period to sets in the Louis XVI style, paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, mirrors, clocks, porcelain, art glass and sculptures. Around it extends a park of about 25 hectares, with the palace on an artificial island surrounded by canals and a star-shaped system of avenues.
