About the museum
The Muzeum Ziemi Kłodzkiej (Kłodzko Land Museum) was formally established on 11 March 1963 and officially opened on 1 May of the same year. Its first seat was the former Commandant’s Palace on the Kłodzko market square, but the building threat caused by the subsidence of the underground of the Old Town forced the museum to store its collections outside the town, in the manor house in Jaszkowa Górna.
Since 1971 the museum has been housed in the former Jesuit convictus, a Baroque building linked with the order that came to Kłodzko in 1624; the convictus operated thanks to a foundation of 1649. Renovation and adaptation work was carried out in 1976–1986. The building has about 4,000 m² of usable space, and in the courtyard there is a lapidarium. The interiors include, among others, a library in the former refectory, a concert hall in the former chapel, the Salon Złoty (Golden Salon) and a Baroque staircase.
The largest collections of the museum are tin objects by Kłodzko and Silesian pewterers, numismatics, Silesian clocks from the late 19th and early 20th century, and contemporary art glass from Kłodzko. The permanent exhibitions include “Z dziejów Kłodzka” (From the History of Kłodzko), “Oczy czasu” (Eyes of Time) and “Kruche Piękno” (Fragile Beauty). The museum also runs a scholarly library with more than 9,500 volumes of regional literature.
