About the museum
The Muzeum Ziemi Mogileńskiej (Mogilno Land Museum) was founded in 2002 as an institution of the gmina of Mogilno and opened to visitors in May 2003. Its seat is the village of Chabsko in the Mogilno County, on the border of Greater Poland, Kuyavia and Pałuki. The museum has an associated Friends of the Mogilno Land Museum Society (Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Muzeum Ziemi Mogileńskiej).
The permanent exhibitions present the past of the region from several angles. The archaeological section shows finds from excavations in the Mogilno Land and partly from Greater Poland, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages. The historical exhibition contains memorabilia from the gminas of Mogilno, Dąbrowa, Strzelno, Trzemeszno, Orchowo, Jeziora Wielkie and Pakość. The ethnographic exhibition presents the folk culture of the region, which was shaped by the influences of Greater Poland, Kuyavia and Pałuki.
Another exhibition tells the story of the Catholic clergy and religious buildings and includes memorabilia of Primate Józef Glemp and of selected priests. In 2026 a new permanent exhibition, “Sztuka Ziemi Mogileńskiej” (Art of the Mogilno Land), was opened. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions, museum lessons and the annual festival “Chlebem i miodem” (With Bread and Honey).
