About the museum
The Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum in Wenecja, a branch of the Pałuki Land Museum in Żnin, was established in 1972 on the initiative of enthusiasts of the Pałuki region and of narrow-gauge railways. It is located in the small village of Wenecja, on the shore of Lake Wenecja, close to the ruins of the Castle of the Devil of Wenecja.
The museum is one of the largest railway open-air museums in Europe with a track gauge of 600 mm. Several dozen exhibits are gathered here, including 17 historic steam locomotives (the oldest from 1899), goods and passenger wagons, and hand and motor draisines. The exhibition is complemented by a historic waiting room, a level-crossing keeper’s hut with a barrier, track with points, a water crane and a turntable.
The museum lies on the route of the Żnin Narrow-Gauge Railway, so it can be reached by train from Żnin or Biskupin. One ticket covers the museum and the ruins of the Castle of the Devil of Wenecja.
