About the museum
The museum in Sadowne was established in 1978 thanks to a group of local enthusiasts, encouraged by the school headmaster Bogusław Kić. The first entry in the Commemorative Book (Księga Pamiątkowa) was made on 11 June 1978 by the then education superintendent (kurator oświaty) in Siedlce. The collections were initially shown in an old hut by the former boarding house, and later moved to a larger room in the new building of the lower secondary school (gimnazjum).
The collections consist almost entirely of donations from residents of Sadowne, nearby villages and people from further afield; name plates of the donors are placed next to the exhibits. Before 1989 the museum was visited by young people of Polish descent from several European countries and from Nigeria, and after the changes also by young people from the Czech Republic, Belarus, Israel, France and Canada, some of whom looked here for traces of their Jewish roots.
For many years the museum had no legal owner, which threatened its future. By resolution of 18 May 1999 the councillors of the Sadowne commune took the institution over as a commune museum, and the matter was finally settled more than a dozen years later.
