About the museum
The Muzeum Ziemi Średzkiej (Środa Land Museum) operates in the manor house in Koszuty near Środa Wielkopolska. The building is a late-Baroque noble manor house from the third quarter of the 18th century: single-storey and symmetrical, with a porch, projecting corner bays and a steep mansard roof covered with wooden shingles (gont). During alterations its basic features, shaped in the 18th century, were preserved. The manor house together with the landscape park from the first half of the 19th century forms a manor-and-park complex entered in the register of monuments.
The permanent exhibition “Mała siedziba ziemiańska w Wielkopolsce” (A Small Country Seat in Greater Poland) occupies eight rooms furnished in the style of a Polish manor house from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The tour begins on the porch with its openwork wooden balustrade, from which one enters directly into the vestibule (sień).
The Koszuty site also houses the Municipal Gallery of the Środa Land Museum and a research room. The museum organises concerts, workshops and museum lessons, and every month a “Rodzinna niedziela w muzeum” (Family Sunday at the Museum) takes place: workshops for children aged 5–10 with a carer.
