About the museum
The Swarzędzkie Centrum Historii i Sztuki (Swarzędz Centre of History and Art) was set up in a former fire station building that was adapted for museum purposes. The investment was carried out as part of the Swarzędz Citizens’ Budget project for 2017, and was largely financed from EU funds obtained by the gmina. The facility was meant to give residents a place that brings them closer to the history and cultural diversity of the town.
The mission of the centre is to collect, protect and promote the material and intangible heritage of the region. The institution spreads knowledge about the traditions and monuments of the gmina and about the rich history of the joinery craft for which Swarzędz is famous. It also shows the work of local artists.
The offer includes permanent and temporary exhibitions, presented in traditional display cabinets and in multimedia form. Visitors can take a virtual walk through the former Swarzędz, find familiar places on a model of the town, build a virtual piece of furniture or take on the role of a firefighter. The centre runs museum lessons, workshops and lectures and organises trips along the Swarzędzki Szlak Meblowy (Swarzędz Furniture Trail).
