About the museum
The Wschowa Land Museum was established on 1 April 1968 by the transformation of the Memorabilia Room (Izba Pamiątek), which had operated since 1965 in the Gothic hall of the Wschowa town hall. Its seat became the historic tenement house at Zamkowy Square 2, and the solemn opening took place in July 1970. In 1975 the museum received part of the neighbouring tenement house no. 3.
In 1983 the museum took over the care of the Old Town Evangelical Cemetery and the Lapidarium of Tombstone Sculpture created there, and in 2013 it received part of the restored former Jesuit residence at Farny Square 3. There, permanent exhibitions devoted to the economic, political, cultural and religious history of Wschowa from the Middle Ages to the 20th century have been set up.
The museum collects souvenirs from archaeology, ethnography, history and the history of art; its leading collections include monuments of Protestant culture and collections of pewter ware. Shown are, among other things, an exhibition on the Battle of Wschowa of 1706, presentations on the royal town and the Saxon era, a numismatic cabinet with the Hoard from Święciechowa, and a permanent exhibition of prints by Eugeniusz Get Stankiewicz.
