About the museum
The Muzeum Młynarstwa i Rolnictwa (Museum of Milling and Agriculture) in Osieczna was established in 2012 on the initiative of the Jankowski family, which has been connected with milling traditions for generations. It is a private institution, supported by the foundation “Ratujmy Zabytki Drewniane” (Let’s Save Wooden Monuments).
The museum is housed in a complex of historic koźlak windmills. The first of them was built in 1761 and holds a collection devoted to traditional agriculture; the second dates from 1763 and has interiors in which milling machines and equipment have survived almost unchanged. The third windmill belongs to a private owner. According to the museum, Osieczna is the only place in Poland where three original 18th-century koźlaks have stood side by side for more than 250 years.
The collections include several thousand monuments from Southern Greater Poland: everyday objects, agricultural tools and machines, clothing and textiles, ritual accessories, folk art, and historical and archaeological objects. Of particular note are the structural elements and fittings of the windmills and a collection of old carpentry tools. The museum grounds also have enclosures for animals, an exhibition of old agricultural machines, a miniature water mill and a café.
