About the museum
The Narodowe Centrum Kultury Filmowej (National Centre for Film Culture) is a centre for film education and the dissemination of knowledge about cinema. It operates in the revitalised EC1 combined heat and power plant in Łódź, in the heart of the New Centre of Łódź. The institution presents the history of Polish cinematography and works on the digitisation of its collections, and its plans include a film library.
Its most important part is the permanent exhibition “Kino Polonia”, the largest exhibition about Polish cinema. It tells the story of more than 120 years of film culture on Polish lands, from its beginnings to the present day. The second permanent exhibition, “Materia Kina”, is devoted to the process of making a film, from the script through work on set to distribution, and can also be visited in game mode.
The centre has about 3,200 square metres of exhibition space, five film education studios (for special effects, television, animation, sound and post-production) and three cinema halls: Odeon, Luna and Urania. On site there are a cinema programme, film festivals, lectures and academies.
