About the museum
The Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism (Muzeum Dzieci Polskich – ofiar totalitaryzmu) was established on 1 June 2021 as an institution in formation. Its task is to collect and make available collections related to the history of the German Nazi camp for Polish children at ul. Przemysłowa in Łódź (1942–1945) and its branch in Dzierżązna near Zgierz (1943–1945), and to commemorate the youngest victims of the Second World War.
The museum’s temporary home is at ul. Piotrkowska 90. In December 2022 the museum bought two buildings on the site of the former camp at ul. Przemysłowa, including the former camp commandant’s building, where a permanent exhibition is to be created, and acquired neighbouring plots for the construction of its permanent seat. In 2023 a branch of the museum was established in Dzierżązna.
The multimedia exhibition “Mamo, czemu nie przyjeżdżasz? Listy dzieci z obozu na Przemysłowej” (Mum, why aren’t you coming? Letters from the children of the camp on Przemysłowa) has been on view in the temporary home since December 2022. It is based on letters from the young prisoners, shows their longing for loved ones and the extremely hard conditions of life in the camp, and encourages reflection on values. The museum also presents temporary exhibitions and runs educational activities.
