About the museum
The Ośrodek Dokumentacji Dziejów Ziemi Goleniowskiej opened on 11 November 2008 in a renovated late-19th-century tenement house at ul. Pocztowa, called “Żółty Domek” (Yellow House) after the colour of its bricks. The centre is a municipal organisational unit. The building has three floors: two of them house the exhibition, and the third holds the library collections and administrative rooms.
The centre’s task is to collect and process materials on the history of Goleniów: documents, historic objects and souvenirs, as well as memories and accounts of pre-war and post-war residents. In January 2018 the holdings of the Izba Pamięci (Memory Room) of former residents of Gollnow were brought to Goleniów from Mölln in Germany, where they had been kept until then.
The permanent exhibition presents the history of the town and region from the period before the town was chartered in 1268 to settlement after the Second World War. It shows, among other things, a reconstructed bourgeois parlour from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and old everyday objects and farm tools. The centre also runs regional history lessons.
