About the museum
The decision to build the Podkarpackie Centrum Nauki was taken in 2018. The investment was made possible by EU co-financing covering 85 per cent of the construction costs; the remaining 15 per cent was provided by the Podkarpackie Voivodeship local government. The centre is run by the Wojewódzki Dom Kultury in Rzeszów, and it was opened to visitors in 2023.
The modern building stands in Jasionka, right next to the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport and a sports and entertainment arena. The building was recognised in the Property Design Awards 2023 architecture competition, where it was among the finalists in the public buildings category.
The centre aims to popularise science. Its profile is linked to aviation and space flight, but also to computer science, telecommunications, the human body and nature. The exhibitions occupy three floors of the building and the area around it. Visitors independently operate more than 200 interactive stations, and at many of them educators help. The exhibition is supplemented by workshop rooms, a planetarium and a flight simulator with a moving platform. In front of the building stands an AN-2 aircraft produced in Mielec, whose interior can be visited on selected days.
