Radiostacja Gliwice

Branch of the Gliwice Museum in the historic transmitter station of 1935 with a 111-metre wooden tower, listed as a Monument of History.

Opening hoursAdmission 20 zł Partially accessible

About the museum

The transmitter station at ul. Tarnogórska in Gliwice was put into operation in 1935 as part of the Gleiwitzer Sender radio station. A transmitter with a power of 8 kW operated there, and the vertical transmitting antenna was mounted on a 111-metre wooden tower. It strengthened propaganda activity in the town, which lay right at the then border with Poland.

The radio station consisted of two sites: the transmitter station at ul. Tarnogórska and the broadcasting studios with microphone studios on the former Rundfunkstrasse, about 4 km away. The first Gliwice radio station, from 1925, survives only as a building, now used by a hospital.

In 2017 the Gliwice Radio Station was entered on the list of Monuments of History. It is also on the Silesian Voivodeship Route of Technical Monuments and on the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). Today it is a branch of the Gliwice Museum, where the history of radio and media art is presented.
