About the museum
The museum was created on the initiative of the residents of Dobre. In 1935 the head of the local school, Jan Zych, invited Konstanty Laszczka, a well-known sculptor and former pupil of the Dobrzyń school, to the opening of the new school building. The artist could not come, but he gave the school several sculptures, and in 1936 he visited Dobre and brought further gifts. From then on he and Jan Zych were friends, and the works he donated formed the basis of the collection.
A social committee, supported by the artist’s family and friends, brought about the opening of the Społeczne Muzeum Konstantego Laszczki on 2 October 1971. The first sculptures stood in the head teacher’s office. Today the museum is located at ul. Kościuszki 2 and is a unit of the Dobre commune.
Konstanty Laszczka (1865–1956) was a sculptor, medallist and ceramicist, professor and rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. The museum’s collection includes portraits, monumental and symbolic sculptures, animal and fantastic sculptures, ceramics, medals, paintings, and memorabilia from Jan Zych’s suitcase. After renovation the museum has been open to visitors again since June 2026.
