About the museum
The Muzeum 7. Pułku Ułanów Lubelskich was opened in 1992 on the initiative of Krzysztof Szczypiorski, author of a monograph on the Lublin uhlans. Until 2001 it was housed in a building on ul. Warszawska, and then it moved to the villa of Dr Jan Hubert at ul. gen. K. Sosnkowskiego 4. Since 2005 it has been a branch of the Muzeum Ziemi Mińskiej (Museum of the Mińsk Land). The regiment was stationed in Mińsk Mazowiecki from 1921 to 1939, and memorabilia of it scattered around the world continually add to the museum's collections.
The villa belonged to the physician Jan Hubert (1862–1944), a social activist and co-founder of the Mińsk grammar school, regarded as the prototype of Doctor Judym in the novel by Stefan Żeromski. The exhibition occupies five rooms devoted to successive periods in the life of the unit: the formation of the regiment in 1918 and the war of 1919–1921; a period of peace with a reconstructed commander's office and standard; the September Campaign of 1939; and the occupation and the re-formation of the regiment in General Anders' II Corps in Italy. An additional room is devoted to the memory of the 2nd Mińsk Mazowiecki Territorial Defence Brigade.
In the museum garden stand busts of the regiment's commanders and replicas of Polish Army equipment, including a Bofors wz. 36 anti-tank gun, a wooden supply wagon and military bicycles from 1939. The museum is also a meeting place for uhlan families and cavalry enthusiasts during the regiment's festival and patriotic ceremonies.
