About the museum
The Społeczne Muzeum Regionalne w Tyczynie was founded in 1985. It is run by the Towarzystwo Miłośników Ziemi Tyczyńskiej (Tyczyn Land Enthusiasts Society), and its seat is the upper floor of an Art Nouveau tenement house at Rynek 24.
The collections document the history of the town and its surroundings. They include everyday objects, tools and militaria, as well as other historical and ethnographic exhibits donated by residents. Tyczyn, chartered in 1368, has a rich heritage linked, among others, to the Wodzicki family, and local history enthusiasts have for decades cherished the memory of its past.
The same building also houses the Centrum Promocji Dziedzictwa Kulturowego (Centre for the Promotion of Cultural Heritage), a branch of the town and commune cultural centre, which runs classes and workshops, including ones linked to the ethnographer Franciszek Kotula.
