About the museum
The museum was founded in 1977 on the initiative of the Wojewódzka Rada Łowiecka (Voivodeship Hunting Council) in Poznań, and since 1982 it has been a branch of the Muzeum Narodowe Rolnictwa i Przemysłu Rolno-Spożywczego in Szreniawa. It is housed in a renovated nineteenth-century manor house in a six-hectare landscape park with varied terrain. The second historic building is the coach house and stable, where a nature exhibition has been shown since 1993.
In 2004 the Greater Poland entrepreneur and hunter Adam Smorawiński gave the museum a collection of exotic trophies from four continents and funded a new pavilion to display it, which in 2010 was extended to house the growing collections. The manor house shows the history of hunting: from the tools of the first hunters, through old hunting methods and the history of hunting firearms, to hunting in art and a hunting salon from the early twentieth century.
Dioramas in the stable and coach house show the habitats of game animals of Greater Poland, and the pavilion displays specimens of animals from five continents and a collection of parrots from around the world. The museum also presents watercolours by the ornithologist Jan Bogumił Sokołowski, an exhibition devoted to Adam Smorawiński, a many-times Polish champion in rally and racing sports, and a library on nature and hunting. It runs workshops, quests and outdoor events, such as the Piknik Sokolniczy (Falconry Picnic).
