About the museum
The Zagroda Młyńska in Bogdaniec is an ethnographic branch of the Muzeum Lubuskie. It consists of three historic buildings: the Górny Młyn (Upper Mill) from 1826, an outbuilding and a coach house. The mill was driven by a water wheel. From 1936 a water turbine assisted by a combustion engine drove it; after the outbreak of war in 1939 the engine was replaced by an electric one. A reconstructed mill wheel, which drove the mill until the 1930s, is one of the highlights of the complex.
Inside the mill building the original equipment is shown, including early medieval hand querns and later millstones. In the miller’s house there are interiors from different periods: a parlour from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, an interwar kitchen and a bedroom from the 1940s and 1950s. In the former utility rooms you can see craft workshops (of the saddler, cooper and wheelwright), livestock equipment, farm tools, carriages, a forge from Dolne Nadwarcie, threshing and wool-carding machines, a horse-driven mill (kierat) and an exhibition on beekeeping.
In the orchard stands a bread oven built in 2000 on the model of regional ovens. The museum runs workshops in bread-making from dough to loaf, pottery workshops and museum lessons.
