About the museum
The Regional Mementos Exhibition (Wystawa Pamiątek Regionalnych) has been operating since 2001 and grew out of the exhibition “Słońsk jakiego nie znamy” (The Słońsk We Don’t Know) from 1995. It is run by the Słońsk Friends Society “Unitis Viribus”. The idea of the Society was born in May 2001, when the first exhibition was opened, in the hope that the association would find it easier in future to organise a real museum.
For almost thirty years the display was shown in an 18th-century building of a former school. In September 2026 it was moved to a modern school at ul. Lipowa, where it was set up in a new arrangement.
The exhibition presents the history of Słońsk, the former Sonnenburg, seat of the Brandenburg bailiwick of the Order of St John (the Knights Hospitaller). Visitors can see photographs of the most important buildings and events, everyday objects, documents and mementos left by the German residents and brought by the Polish settlers, as well as archaeological finds.
