About the museum
The Museu Keil Amaral is housed in the Casa da Calçada, an 18th-century building on the Calçada da Vigia, next to the Adro da Sé, classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1978. The rehabilitation of the building began at the end of 2014.
The museum tells the story of thirteen members of the Keil Amaral family, from their individual paths to their collective ones, between the 19th and 20th centuries, based on works from their private collection. One of the members, Alfredo Keil, composed the national anthem, a highlight of the museum.
The collection includes tailoring pieces, music sheets, scale models, photographs, furniture, illustrations, azulejos, sculptures, ceramics, musical instruments, goldsmiths’ work, arms and crafts that belonged to the family.
