About the museum
In the Adro da Sé, facing the cathedral of Viseu, stands the Church of the Misericórdia, which houses a museum nucleus devoted to highlighting the charitable actions of its brotherhood. The collection brings together more than a hundred objects of great variety: some of a secular nature, notably relating to benefactors and the care of the sick, and others of a religious nature, including numerous works of faith.
These objects bear witness to the humanist character of the men and women who, over the centuries, took on the task of practising the fourteen works of mercy. The museum is run by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Viseu and is presented by the municipal museums of Viseu among the city's museum spaces, alongside the Museu Nacional Grão Vasco and the treasury museum of the Sé (cathedral).
