About the museum

The Centro de Interpretação das Linhas de Torres Vedras (Lines of Torres Vedras Interpretation Centre) is housed in the former chapel of the Forte de São Vicente (São Vicente Fort), one of the high points overlooking Torres Vedras, and opened in July 2017. It is one of the centres of the network that supports the Percurso Histórico das Linhas de Torres (Historic Route of the Lines of Torres), created in 2006 by an association of municipalities.

The Lines of Torres were the system of fortifications built to defend Lisbon during the French invasions, in 1810. The centre offers several educational experiences that help visitors understand this heritage and appreciate its historical importance, with exhibitions and a short film, also in English.

It is run by the Municipality of Torres Vedras, within the framework of the Museu Municipal Leonel Trindade (Leonel Trindade Municipal Museum), and the visit can be completed with a walk around the fort.
