Opening hoursAdmission €3

About the museum

The Centro de Interpretação do Bordado de Castelo Branco was created to promote embroidery, the emblem of the city, which is treated both as a handicraft and as an artistic expression. It is housed in the Domus Municipalis, the former Casa da Vila, which also served as a prison and as the Municipal Library, next to the historic district.

The route combines old objects with digital and technological media. Visitors follow the origins of embroidery, from flax sowing and weaving to silkworm rearing and the extraction of the raw material, and learn about the evolution of techniques, stitches, the historical context and the symbolism.

The museum space and the shop are complemented by a workshop school, where embroiderers produce pieces of Bordado de Castelo Branco, which is in the final stage of certification.
