Ecomuseu do Zêzere

Museum nucleus in Belmonte, in the former Tulha dos Cabrais, dedicated to the history of the Zêzere river.

Opening hoursAdmission €1.50

About the museum

The Ecomuseu do Zêzere presents the history of the Zêzere river to visitors and is housed in the former Tulha dos Cabrais. The Cabrais family was historically the most important family in Belmonte and, as major landowners, they built this granary in front of their manor house, so the building became known forever as the Tulha dos Cabrais.

The building rests directly on an outcrop of granite and is a solid, sober construction of unknown date that has undergone some alterations. The most evident one resulted from the opening of the road in front of the entrance, which required the building of access ramps.

The ecomuseum is part of the network of municipal museums of Belmonte and has a combined ticket with the other spaces, such as the Museu dos Descobrimentos, the Museu Judaico and the Museu do Azeite.
