About the museum
The Museu do Vinho e da Vinha, in Bucelas, is a facility of the Municipality of Loures dedicated to local history and the promotion of the territory, with the typical wine of this region as its common thread. The region was demarcated by decree of 3 March 1911. The museum occupies a building whose history is closely linked to the winemaking tradition of the locality.
The museum has two exhibition areas: a permanent exhibition area, where visitors learn about the main stages of work in the vineyard and the traditional means of wine production, and a mezzanine reserved for temporary exhibitions on themes concerning the Bucelas community. It also has the Camilo Alves Documentation Centre, dedicated to wine and to the history of the Peninsular Wars, and a shop that stocks most of the region's wine producers.
Since March 2012 the Interpretation Centre of the Historic Route of the Lines of Torres has operated in the same building. It addresses the French Invasions and the effort of the local population in building the fortifications that halted the Napoleonic armies. The museum runs regular activities, such as wine tastings on the first Saturday of each month.
