About the museum
For centuries, mining was an important activity in the economy of Ribeira de Pena. The extraction of tin and tungsten increased greatly in the 20th century, with the establishment of mining companies in Padroselos, in the parish of Santa Marinha, and above all in Adoria, in the parish of Cerva, where the largest company the municipality has ever had operated.
The Casa do Minério – Museu do Volfrâmio (House of Mining – Tungsten Museum) is in the former building of the Casa do Povo (village community house) of Cerva and interprets the history and memory of the golden age of tungsten, which remains very present in the local community's memory. The museum presents tangible and intangible heritage and a geology component, which shows the evolution of the Earth and the relationship between humans and minerals.
It also serves as a link to the Adoria mining area, where the aim is to create conditions for safe visits to the existing structures. It is part of the Ecomuseu de Ribeira de Pena and of the Roteiro das Minas (Mines Route).
