About the museum

The Arco de Baúlhe branch, in the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto, is part of the multi-site network of the Museu Nacional Ferroviário, whose headquarters are in Entroncamento. It occupies several historic buildings: the town's railway station and three buildings where rolling stock was kept, at the end point of the former Tâmega Line, which linked the Livração station on the Douro Line with Arco de Baúlhe.

Visitors find carriages, locomotives, saloon coaches and objects that represent the history of this line, including items linked to the daily work of railwaymen. Among the vehicles, the ME 5 petrol railcar, of national manufacture, and the two-cab railcars SE fv 201 and SE fv 4001 stand out, as do vehicles for official use.

The site is also the seat of the Museu das Terras de Basto, run by the Municipal Council of Cabeceiras de Basto. Visits are guided and take place at set times, and admission is free.
