About the museum

The municipality of Ribeira de Pena is known for its handcraft work with flax, which in Cerva and Limões is particularly recognised for the quality of pieces woven on the loom by experienced weavers. The Centro de Interpretação – Museu do Linho (Flax Interpretation Centre – Flax Museum) is in the building of the Grupo de Tecelagem de Limões (Limões Weaving Group), in the historic centre of the village, and seeks to promote the traditions associated with flax, historical and ethnographic research and tourism.

The route combines the traditional with multimedia: the visitor follows the flax cycle in the exhibition “O Ciclo do Linho” (The Flax Cycle) and reaches the workshop of the Grupo de Tecelagem, where they can see and try out work at the loom. The museum also has a shop.

The project received an honourable mention at the APOM Awards of 2017, for the partnership “Linho de Cerva e Limões” with VERde NOVO. It is part of the Ecomuseu de Ribeira de Pena.
