Casa da Cultura – Museu da Escola

About the museum

The Casa da Cultura – Museu da Escola (Culture House – School Museum) preserves the school heritage of the municipality of Ribeira de Pena and the memory of several generations. The museum occupies a former Adães Bermudes school, a century-old building in the centre of the town, and helps visitors understand the evolution of primary education in Portugal.

The route combines the traditional exhibition with interactivity and multimedia, so as to attract visitors of all ages. It includes the exhibition “A Escola Tradicional” (The Traditional School) and the Casa do Professor (Teacher's House).

The building keeps an active role in education: it houses a Learning Centre and a Resource Centre for teachers. It is part of the Ecomuseu de Ribeira de Pena (Ribeira de Pena Ecomuseum).
