About the museum

The Museu Municipal de Vila Pouca de Aguiar (Vila Pouca de Aguiar Municipal Museum) has been housed in the former Casa do Condado (Count's House) since April 2007. The route offers a journey through the past of the territory, in contact with the existing features of this historic building.

The collection consists of archaeological collections gathered over several decades and is spread across six settings, which correspond to six moments in the occupation of the municipality. The common thread is the exploitation of the region's natural resources over thousands of years: granite, gold and mineral waters.

One of the rooms, devoted to “Ouro Romano” (Roman Gold), shows material from the Roman mining operations at Tresminas and Jales and presents the geological and mining setting of the territory. The museum also has a room for temporary exhibitions and spaces for audiovisuals and an education service.
