About the museum
The Ecomuseu de Vila Chã de Sá opened in 2007 on a plot of about 1,800 m² at the entrance to the village, where a rubbish dump had previously been. The structure was built stone by stone by local craftsmen and workers, with the support of Viseu Municipality through the Requalvis programme and of the local population.
The space evokes the production of collective goods in earlier times. It brings together restored stone buildings that house the collection of the Junta de Freguesia (parish council) and many donations from residents, including agricultural implements, devices and utensils that give a glimpse of the rural life of the region.
The route includes a water mill, fruit trees, a vineyard, a well with a cegonha (traditional well lever) and a traditional Beira kitchen. The ecomuseum also has an educational purpose, linking it to the local school.
