About the museum
The Museu Jorge Vieira – Casa das Artes is housed in the Casa do Governador, in Beja Castle. It came about from a donation made to the city by the sculptor Jorge Vieira (1922–1998) in 1995, and brings together his sculptures, maquettes and drawings.
The museum is small and well lit, and allows visitors to follow the work of one of the 20th-century Portuguese sculptors. It belongs to the Beja Municipality, which in 2025 marked the museum's 30th anniversary with a tribute exhibition, “Terra Sol Liberdade”, featuring works by Jorge Vieira and by artists connected with Beja or with the sculptor.
Admission is free, and the space is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
