About the museum

The Centro Interpretativo do Vinho de Talha (CIVT), in Vila de Frades, in the municipality of Vidigueira, opened to the public in November 2020. It is a space for interpreting and disseminating the intangible heritage linked to the know-how of vinho de talha, a tradition maintained in the region since Roman times.

The exhibition route covers five areas: the territory, the ancient history (linked to São Cucufate), the vine culture, the wine-making process in the cellar, and the tavern. Tablets distributed along the route show, through augmented reality, digital layers with animations over the illustrations, accompanied by a voice-over. In the cellar, next to the tavern, a film on the large central table invites socialising, and visitors discover smells, the sounds of the vineyard, proverbs and cante alentejano (Alentejo folk singing).

In 2021 the centre received an honourable mention in the category “Coleção Visitável” (Visitable Collection) of the Associação Portuguesa de Museologia.
