About the museum
The Múzeum školstva a pedagogiky was founded in 1970 as a nationwide specialised institution for the history of education and pedagogy in Slovakia. Its founding body is the Ministry of Education, and organisationally it belongs under the Centrum vedecko-technických informácií SR. It collects, professionally records and protects material monuments of school cultural heritage from the territory of present-day Slovakia, from the earliest times to the present.
For many years the museum kept its collections mainly in storage. It opened to the public in a new seat in the former municipal folk school in Devínska Nová Ves. The permanent exhibition Dejinami školstva (Through the History of Education) was opened on 24 April 2024 and shows how the organisation and content of education in this territory changed from the Middle Ages up to the changes of the 80s of the 20th century.
The exhibition presents authentic collection objects from school depositories against the background of the social, political and economic conditions of individual periods. A separate section is devoted to a gallery of personalities of education – teachers, scientists and political officials. The museum also prepares educational programmes for school groups, guided tours and accompanying events for the public.
