About the museum
Vagačov dom was begun in 1908, and an upper storey was added in 1932 to 1933. It is linked to the Vagačovci family and to Ján Vagač, who founded the first manufacturing bryndza dairy in Slovakia in Detva in 1787. The house has never been listed as a monument. Its reconstruction began in 2017 under the direction of the current owner, Martin Doskočil, during which the original floors and parquet were preserved.
The museum section on the first floor presents the history of the Vagačovci family and its influence on the cultural and social development of Detva. The space is also used for exhibitions and cultural events. The house contains a café, the Podpoliansky pivovar brewery with the U Vagača pub, and the town's tourist information office.
