About the museum

The Zichy Manor in Divín was built in 1670 for the Renaissance-era nobleman Imrich III Balassa, probably on the site of an older curia. The fortified complex has an approximately square ground plan, with a two-wing main building, walls and four corner bastions. At the beginning of the 20th century the manor was altered by the Zichy family; in the second half of the 20th century only minor alterations were made, and the building gradually fell into disrepair.

The museum in the manor was set up by the village of Divín on 1 March 2015, and after the creation of the permanent exhibitions it was opened on 11 June 2016. Its aim is to popularise the history of the village, especially of its national cultural monuments – the medieval castle, the Renaissance manor house and the Baroque Church of All Saints. The guided tour is supplemented by short animations of the appearance of the castle in the 17th century and of the manor house at the beginning of the 18th century.

• Hrad Divín – History of the medieval castle above the village: archaeological finds from the castle and the castle cave, a late Gothic statue of the Immaculata, militaria, replicas and a 3D model of the castle.
• Dejiny kaštieľa a panstva – Gallery of the Zichy family, photographs of the last owners, original furniture and documents relating to the Zichy family estate.
• Dejiny obce, Baníctvo a Príroda Divína – History of the village from prehistoric times, miners' equipment, collections of minerals and butterflies, and stalactites from the Divín castle cave.
