About the museum
A stone gallery has been set up in Štorje near Sežana, displaying a range of rock samples from numerous places on the Karst where stonemasonry once flourished. The gallery is the outcome of the long-standing work of master stonemason Gabrijel Jeram, who over 25 years visited 160 quarries on the Karst and collected samples from them. He collected them to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Karst.
The gallery also displays some pieces the master has made from stone, as well as old stonemasonry tools. Part of the collection is devoted to the building of the Slovenian Parliament designed by architect Jože Plečnik: Jeram took part in making the stone staircases in the State Assembly (Državni zbor), and 14 different types of Slovenian stone were built into the building, five of them from Karst quarries.
Jeram presents his collection of stones, tools and photographs to visitors; with his help, visitors can also make their own stone souvenir.
