About the museum
The cultural and historical intertwining of the Livek area with neighbouring Benečija (Slovene Venetia) shaped a distinctive Slovene-Venetian building type. Nježna hiša in the village of Jevšček is an example of this architecture and one of the few preserved single-storey semi-basement houses; according to oral tradition it is the oldest building in the village. Its last residents, Jožefa Matelič and her nephew Janko Tončerin, lived in it until the mid-20th century.
The house is single-storey, oblong in plan and built of stone, with a thatched roof. The presented interior reflects the living conditions of the 19th century: on the ground floor there is a black kitchen with a raised hearth, a stove with fired clay tiles and two bedrooms, while the cellar has a space for the pigsty and the henhouse, and a tool store.
