About the museum
On the scenic ridge of Kolovrat (1,115 m), which links the Italian Benečija region (Slovene Venetia) with the Soča Valley, the third defence line of the Italian army ran during the First World War. The observation points, firing trenches, machine-gun and artillery positions and caverns are interesting for their various details, for example a spiral staircase in one of the caverns and the partly original use of wartime materials.
The cross-border museum preserves the memory of the third defence line behind the Isonzo Front, and is one of the most visited points on the Peace Trail from the Alps to the Adriatic. From the ridge there are views over the former battlefield, from the Kanin and Krn ranges to the Friulian Plain and the Adriatic Sea.
